Carpenters: Journeyman

Carpenters: Journeyman

Journeyman Carpenter
Journeymen should have several years of carpentry experience, should own a complete set of hand and power tools and own a truck or van with a rack (for transportation of tools and materials). They should be capable of layout, cutting rafters and stair stringers, sidewalling, and roofing. Journeymen should be working towards obtaining their Construction Supervisor’s License, if they don’t already have it. They should be able to read and interpret building plans.

For all positions, must have vehicle and be able to lift 80 pounds.

Construction Superintendent

The Construction Supervisor (CS) is a hands-on manager of various projects working closely and directly reporting back to the Project Manager (PM). The CS helps coordinate and develop all staff on the site, CA employees, subcontractors, and vendors.  The CS will inspect the daily project progress and arranging for necessary materials and equipment to get the job done most efficiently with budgets and deadlines in mind.  This progress is reported back to the PM, through a combination of office & site meetings, emails, and reports.  CS make sure specifications and plans of the architect or owner are being met in conjunction with the stipulated contract, schedule and budget and ensuring adherence to state and local codes.  They are likely to be involved in selecting specific material vendors and subcontractors and ensuring that these individuals are working well together.  Need to be able to spearhead potential issues and troubleshoot problems that arise on the job. Responsible for making sure the jobsite is left secured and broom clean every day and that all equipment is working properly.  Must maintain safe work practices and follow state and local guidelines concerning building projects.  They may hold regular meetings with workers to review worksite safety and arranging for necessary equipment. 

Journeyman Plumber

Requirements:

  • Ability to inspect, repair, install, modify and maintain plumbing fixtures in heating, water and drainage systems in both the rough and finish stages
  • Ability to identify electrical, plumbing and safety problems applicable to the installation and be able to take necessary corrective action
  • Must be familiar with all standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to plumbing
  • Must have a current journeyman license and continuing education requirements must be followed and up to date
  • Must be able to work independently or under supervision
  • (Experience with heating systems a plus)
  • Must have own vehicle and be able to transport tools and materials in the vehicle

Physical Requirements:

The plumbing workers make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on being in hard-to-reach places. This requires the employees to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The plumbing workers frequently lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 80 pounds.

 

Tile Setter

Requirements:

  • Tile setters are responsible for installing tiles. They then lay tiles in evenly spread mortar, ensuring precision, clean edges and straight lines.
  • Other duties include removing existing floor coverings, taking measurements and cleaning and leveling the surfaces where the tiles are to be laid.
  • To ensure success as a Tile Setter, you should have extensive knowledge of tiling and marbling techniques, a good eye for detail, and excellent communication skills.
  • A top-notch Tile Setter expertly installs tiles and marble to meet the needs of the customer.

Physical Requirements

This requires the employees to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The tile workers lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 80 pounds.

Architectural Designer & Draftsperson

Architectural Designer & Draftsperson

Requirements:

Cape Associates, Cape Cod's leading custom home builder, is looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented Architectural Designer/Draftsperson to complete our in in-house drafting and design team. We handle a wide variety of residential projects in collaboration with the region's top Architects while also independently offering our clients design services for smaller to medium size projects.

Top candidates must be able handle multiple projects simultaneously from schematic design to permit level and construction documents.  Projects will range from millwork fabrication drawings to moderately sized residential renovations and additions.  Candidates must be able to work closely with engineers, vendors, subcontractors, town officials, and other consultants.

Candidates will be proficient with 2D CAD and 3D modeling in SketchUp and accompanying post-production graphic skills in Adobe Suite.  Due to the self-driven nature of the role, it is imperative that candidates possess strong organizational and communication skills in addition to precision architectural drawing production ability; candidate will be working independently and reporting to a Design Team Manager. Preferred experience of 2-4 years.

Cape Associates offers a unique and exciting environment with almost 100 full-time craftspeople and wood working shop. Our design staff will gain valuable knowledge of the construction process while being free to test their own creative problem-solving, not typically available to entry-level architectural staff at traditional firms. Site visits and varied projects will be the norm and there will be ample opportunity for the development of leadership in the design field. Foreman Carpenter
Foremen should have at least seven to ten years’ carpentry experience, should own a complete set of hand and power tools, own a truck or van with a rack (for transportation of tools and materials) and should have a Construction Supervisor’s License. Foremen should have the leadership skills to run a crew; building everything from a small addition to a complete house. Foremen should be willing and able to train their crew of journeymen and apprentice carpenters with the techniques to make them better craftsmen. They should be well organized and able to communicate easily and effectively with owners, office staff, subcontractors, and designers. The foreman organizes the work and coordinates the various aspects of construction. The Foreman should be able to meet quality standards, cost requirements, and project time schedules.

Apprentice Carpenter

We are looking for aspiring carpenters to join our team at Cape Associates, Inc. as an apprentice carpenter. We furnish you with the necessary technical skills to launch a rewarding career with generous growth opportunity. You will work under the supervision of a journeyman carpenter and or a foreman carpenter, assisting them in their duties while you train and gain a better understanding of your trade. An apprenticeship with our organization entails several years of on-the-job training. Experience in residential construction is beneficial, especially in areas like siding or drywall installation.

Requirements:

  • Experience of using hand and power tools such as drills, chisels, sanders, saws, and nail guns
  • Prior carpentry experience
  • Installing wooden structures such as roofing frames, rafters, partitions, joists, and stud work

Construction Project Manager

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the building industry with strong motivation and a passion for details. Project managers are responsible for managing multiple simultaneous projects, nurturing, and developing relationships with clients, architects, and engineers. Project managers conduct on-site and off-site meetings with clients, job-site crew members and colleagues. Requirements:

  • 4-year college degree preferred, however will consider significant experience
  • Previous experience executing complex, residential, and commercial construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of relevant building codes and scope of work
  • Preference given to candidates with Construction Supervisor’s License (CSL)
  • Must be driven and growth oriented with a passion for building projects
  • Must have strong communication and organization skills
  • Must be computer and technology savvy
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project; Adobe Reader (including editing PDF documents) and willing to learn our construction accounting software and client database software.
  • Travel to assigned job sites and ability to work overtime as necessary
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
