Featured Falmouth Project: Into the Woods
Falmouth is the largest town on the Upper Cape, with everything from wooded, tucked-away lots to open coastal sites. Cape Associates is a third-generation, family-owned Cape Cod builder, and our best-known Falmouth project, Into the Woods, has been recognized with two industry awards. It shows how we approach building here: work with the landscape a lot already has instead of clearing it to start over.
Into the Woods started as a modest getaway. Over the course of design, it grew into a refined 3,200-square-foot residence centered on gathering, creativity, and indoor-outdoor living. Neubauer Ennis designed the home, and Peter Vanderwarker photographed it. It is organized into distinct architectural forms, with soaring communal spaces, private living quarters, and a dedicated art studio. Southern yellow pine beams, expansive glass, and locally sourced materials give it New England character, and the home stays rooted in its wooded Falmouth site rather than imposing on it.

Award-Winning New Construction in Falmouth
Into the Woods earned two industry awards:
2019 PRISM Gold Award for Best Detached Home between 3,000 and 4,000 square feet, from the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston
2018 BRICC Silver Award for New Single Family Home between $1 million and $5 million, from the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod
Designing Homes Around Falmouth's Wooded and Coastal Sites
Falmouth covers a lot of ground. It runs from the harbor village of Woods Hole and the open water views of Falmouth Heights to quieter wooded lots inland, with villages such as East Falmouth, Teaticket, and West Falmouth in between. Because sites vary so much, the planning starts with the lot itself.
Near the water: Coastal lots along Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay call for attention to flood zones, wind exposure, and Conservation Commission review.
In the woods: Inland lots are more about tree preservation, natural light, and shaping the plan around what is already growing, as we did with Into the Woods.
We work through these questions during site planning, before design decisions are locked in.
