Renovation, Orleans

Cape Associates Design Team

The Cape Associates Design Team planned this renovation in Orleans. A light-colored clapboard home with a red front door, dormers and a brick chimney gives the front a traditional Cape look. Dark roof shingles contrast with the pale siding.

At the back, a two-level section has a screened porch below and a railed deck above, which face a lawn and a stone patio. Gray shingles clad a lower wing, with a hipped roof that blends into the house. A patio table with an umbrella sits just outside.

• Red entry doors in the original gable
• Screened porch with white framing
• Upper-level deck with railings
• Stepping stones and a patio
• Hydrangeas along the walk

A split-rail fence and mature trees border the yard, and a gravel drive runs along the side. The landscaping includes lawn, stepping stones and mulched beds, giving each side of the house its own outdoor setting.
