The Great Island House
This in-progress West Yarmouth residence pairs a custom main house and detached guest house through a cohesive architectural language rooted in contemporary coastal design. Clean massing, layered rooflines, natural cedar materials, and expansive glazing work together to create a refined waterfront compound that responds thoughtfully to light, scale, and the surrounding coastal landscape.
Cape Associates is building The Great Island House in West Yarmouth, and the photographs here show construction in progress. Cedar-shingled roofs and walls are going up on several connected volumes, some still wrapped in green weather barrier.
Views from above show the main house and the guest house sitting among bare trees, with water visible beyond. Skylight glazing and solar panels are visible on the roofs.
Inside, heavy timber framing is exposed in a tall room with large window openings. Other images show a trussed porch frame, rows of black-framed windows and an exposed foundation window well, so the structure can be seen as it takes shape.
Many building stages are visible here, from foundation and framing to roof sheathing, shingles and window installation. A guest house stands apart from the main house, and the cedar shingles give both buildings a matching, natural exterior.
