Cedar Line Cottage

Designed as a modern interpretation of the classic Cape cottage, this waterfront retreat balances compact living with thoughtful architectural detailing and a strong connection to the outdoors. Warm natural materials, expansive glazing, and carefully scaled gathering spaces create a relaxed yet refined coastal home that embraces light, simplicity, and the surrounding landscape.

Cape Associates built Cedar Line Cottage with B Architecture Studio. From the street it reads as a small gray-shingled cottage with a gabled front, white-trimmed windows and a covered porch tucked beside it, set among low coastal plantings.

Inside, the main room is open and bright. A vaulted, white-planked ceiling with exposed collar ties rises over a dining table and a window seat, and tall double-hung windows frame the water beyond the dune grass.

• A built-in bench seat under the bay windows
• A compact kitchen with a blue island and a ladder to the loft
• A sleeping loft with cable railings and skylights
• Wood-slat paneling and fitted cabinetry around the beds
• A bath with pale green tile

The photographs also show how much is packed into a modest footprint. Warm wood tones, white walls and touches of teal and coral keep the rooms calm, and each window is placed to bring the shoreline into view from the table, the bench or the bed.
