Major Renovation, Provincetown, MA
Working with architect Peter McDonald, Cape Associates carried out this major renovation in Provincetown. The street side is clad in natural cedar shingles with bright blue shutters, and a stained wood entry porch with turned railings and a wood-paneled base.
Inside, the house opens toward the harbor. French doors lead to a deck, and a stone fireplace with a wide hearth anchors a living room with bay windows and a woven rug.
The stairs are a feature of their own, with weathered timber posts and a built-in shelf unit beside the treads. The kitchen has pale green cabinets, a dark-topped island, a farmhouse sink and wide plank pine floors.
The building sits close to the street in the traditional Provincetown manner, and the cedar shingles and shutters keep it in step with its neighbors. Inside, warm wood floors and rustic timbers show old and new working together.
