Major Renovation, Truro, MA

This major renovation in Truro was completed by Cape Associates with Estes Twombly and Titrington as architect. The house sits low among beach grass and scrub pine, with weathered shingles and a long, pitched profile. Tall windows on the upper floor catch light from several sides.

Two connected volumes carry shed roofs and large banks of windows that look out to the surrounding landscape. Open railings, a trellis-like roof frame and outdoor stairs link the upper decks to the yard.

Inside, light wood stairs and white railings climb through a tall, bright stairwell. The kitchen has a long counter with stools beneath a wood-ceilinged section, and a bedroom has warm wood walls and bedside lamps.

An outdoor shower has slatted wood screening for privacy. Decks, railings and exterior stairs in wood echo the shingle siding, a natural fit for the dune landscape.
