New Home, Truro, MA

New Home, Falmouth, MA
The owner’s original vision for their home was to live humbly on their plot of land and leave the entertaining to their children on an adjacent lot. A few meetings with the architect, however, helped them to discover what they really wanted—a gathering space for family that took full advantage of the beauty of the location and the views of the bay. The plans quickly grew (and grew) into a 3,200 square foot dwelling unlike anything they had ever dreamed of.
The home combines three forms, each holding a specific function: a central transparent entry to welcome and draw one into the house, a cathedral great room for gatherings and to connect the home to the natural surroundings, and a long rising shed-roof portion to hold the bedrooms and art studio.
70 southern yellow pine beams are scattered throughout the interior and exterior of the home; some structural, others ornamental. The beams, combined with the open floor plan and the predominance of glass doors and windows, provide a whimsical atmosphere and keep the expansive spaces feeling intimate.
The house boasts many locally sourced materials – Ashfield stone, slate and Sandwich glass details throughout. Cedar siding is fabricated in a calculated seven-row repeating pattern to mitigate the scale of the facades. This exterior siding pattern is also

New Home, Provincetown, MA
This custom home was featured in House Beautiful Magazine; read the article here.
This project sits on a narrow, wooded plot of land in Provincetown and rather than clear cut the property, the team built the home to embrace the site and go up, up, up. Taking full advantage of a rare, nature-abundant lot, the home features wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows throughout. There are six decks—four of which are screened-in for sleeping among the trees.
The 60-inch-wide front door that was a special order from Germany, pivots on a hinge and is painted in a high-gloss blue—just a first glimpse of the unique details found throughout the home. The first floor ceilings are kept at a modest 7 ½-feet to allow for the airy 10-foot ceilings on the main floor. Throughout the home, the European oak floors have a finish called Dune—an intentional nod to sandy feet.
The three-story, three-bedroom home is 2,700 square feet and includes many unique details including shiplap walls, exposed Douglas fir beams that were weathered to resemble driftwood, and a three-story granite chimney with an inset window on the first floor. The custom staircase also spans three stories, constructed with solid oak treads bolted into the framing, appearing to float between stationary walls. In the kitchen the counters are quartzite—an ideal material for countertops due to its strength and long-lasting composition.
